The school is a state maintained, foundation special school situated in Upminster, Essex in the south east of the London Borough of Havering. Up to 155 children and young people attend the school aged 4 to 19, all with Education, Health and Care Plans detailing educational needs including communication and interaction difficulties, Autism and medical syndromes and physical and sensory needs. There are two sites with Pre-16 students at the main site in Upminster and Post 16 students at the CTS @ The Avelon provision in Rainham.
The school was awarded Specialist Status in Communication and Interaction in 2007, successfully re-designating in 2010. An internal specialist department was established alongside individual language and communication programmes. The school continues to support behaviour, assessment and language and communication development work in other schools within Havering.
Governors and staff at the school have high expectations for students to achieve their best in terms of their independence, social and moral development, as well as their academic achievement, so that they may ultimately make a valuable contribution to society and to prepare them for a fulfilling and purposeful adult life.
Students can be admitted at any time during the academic year but it is usual for the school to have its full complement by the beginning of the school academic year.
All students coming to the school have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
