Language Resource Centre

Specialist School Status

In September 2007, Corbets Tey School gained Specialist Status for Communication and Interaction and successfully re-designated in 2010. This enabled us to develop our Language work both internally for our own pupils and externally for Mainstream Schools and other partners. We spent our ‘Capital Build’ allocation on a new wing which provides a Language Resource and Advice Centre, Training room and Partnership offices on the first floor.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Educational Support Service (SEND ESS)

Open Every Wednesday Afternoon

The Language Resource and Advice Centre is open to all Havering schools and pre-school settings every Wednesday afternoon during term time from 1.30pm-4.30pm.

Advice and Support

Advice and support are available each week from an Advisory Teacher and Communication & Interaction Education Advisor, for children and young people in your school or setting. Advice and support with implementing Speech and Language report recommendations is also available.

Resources

A wide range of resources are available for you to borrow free of charge, to assist in the delivery of speech, language, and communication programmes or SLT care plans for use in your school or setting.

We aim to be as user friendly as possible and therefore have technology-based language support resources e.g. Black Sheep Press, Widgit and Clicker as well as resource making equipment such as printers and laminators for your use.

New resources are purchased in line with the needs of schools, so any suggestions for latest items to be added to the library are welcome.

Demonstrations and Modelling

Colleagues will be available to model how the following strategies and interventions can be used to support children in your school, or setting:

  • Independent work activities
  • Visual supports
  • TacPac
  • Intensive Interaction
  • High tech and paper-based AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)

Please let us know in advance by emailing SENDeducation@havering.gov.uk if you would like to access a modelling session to enable the team to prepare accordingly.

Where possible, please park off site as parking at Corbets Tey School is very limited. For safety reasons, please avoid arriving/leaving the car park during the school bus times between 2.15-3.00pm.
